Crop protection training

CARICOM, CARDI and COLEAD are pleased to invite you to a distance training on “Crop Protection” thematics (Introduction, Intermediate and Advanced levels).

Are your crops suffering losses without you being able to clearly identify the causes? Do you know how to recognise the pests, diseases or weeds responsible before the damage becomes irreversible? How can you accurately estimate pest populations and decide when intervention is really necessary, without resorting to pesticides every time? Would you like to develop an effective, sustainable and economically viable crop protection strategy that incorporates biological control and integrated pest management?

Through interactive activities and real-life case studies, this training course will help you develop the knowledge and reflexes you need to better protect your crops and optimise your yields.
This training course was developed by the Fit For Market Plus programme implemented by COLEAD as part of the Development Cooperation between the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the European Union (EU). This training course was produced with the financial support of the EU and the OEACP. Its content is the sole responsibility of COLEAD and can in no way be taken to reflect the position of the EU or the OACP (more information).

The objectives
By the end of this training, you will be able to:

    1. Understand harmful organisms and their dynamics

Grasp the key issues in crop protection by identifying and classifying major groups of harmful organisms (pests, diseases, weeds). Understand their biology, epidemiology, population dynamics, and the conditions that favor their development, as well as herbicide resistance phenomena.

    2. Observe, diagnose, and assess crop protection needs

Develop skills in observing, sampling, and diagnosing harmful organisms. Apply concepts such as intervention thresholds and economic damage to determine when control actions are justified.

    3. Design and implement effective, integrated crop protection strategies

Learn to create and apply effective crop protection strategies using integrated pest management. Understand the role and limits of chemical control within an integrated approach, master different control techniques, and apply these concepts through case studies.

The prerequisites
No prior knowledge or specific prerequisites are required.
The simplified training programme

Currently unavailable. It will be communicated to you during the launch session on 26th of January 2026.
